On the 27th of November, Morph had the pleasure of working with Year 9 pupils from Featherstone High School. The culturally diverse high school based in Southall is a coeducational academy with specialism status in Science and Sports. Ofsted rated the school as ‘outstanding’ and upon arriving we immediately began to understand some reasons why. The Morph team was joined by some staff from NatWest MoneySense.
Our session began with a brief description of the career journeys of the professionals followed by some insightful questions from the pupils. We grouped the pupils into teams and introduced the concept of assessment centres to them including tips on what good communication, collaboration and leadership looks like in that setting.
The pupils’ engagement in all aspects of the workshop was impressive. They participated in group exercises and gave constructive feedback to each other. They had innovative ideas on how to impact their community positively ranging from litter picking to anti bullying to sports and arts provision.
During the ‘Dragon’s Den’ style pitch, the pupil’s application of knowledge gained that very day was clearly evident. It reminded us of the importance of initiatives like Morph and the huge potential (academic, personal and social) in our youth today.
