As detailed in our previous post, FutureLearn are currently running a free course designed for educators, teachers, lecturers, and trainers who have had to rapidly move from face-to-face to online teaching in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The course, titled “Discover practical ways to teach and support your students online”, is designed to provide you with the knowledge to help you overcome the hurdles presented by teaching online and to embrace its possibilities.

A resource recommended throughout the course is the Learning Designer, developed by a team led by Diana Laurillard at the UCL Knowledge Lab and is free for anyone to use.

The Learning Designer helps teachers and lecturers design teaching and learning activities using the six learning types from the Conversational Framework. It also shows the proportion of each of the different learning types helping the user see where adjustments may be needed.

Various Learning Designer training resources are also made available to include video, user guide, and a crib sheet, all found here.

A guide to the features and function of the Designer Screen in the Learning Designer (where you create your designs) can be found here.
